![]() I won't go through each and every song, but I have a few thoughts: In other words, it sounds a lot more like their first four albums. There's a nice variety on Servant of heavier tracks, poppier tracks, and more punkish or rockabilly stuff. I'm glad to see them pushing themselves a little more again from a songwriting perspective. I think it's arguably their best since Beyond Heaven, although I will always be very fond of Outlaw Gentlemen, so, idk. I'm very pleased to say that Servant of the Mind is a huge improvement over Rewind in that regard. They still always put out at least one song per record that I dig, but, I wanted something like Guitar Gangsters, something that I could put on and easily finish the whole album. So I guess I kind of felt that, with each new album, Volbeat was just becoming a little more boring to me. ![]() I mean I can barely remember anything about it, and I just listened through it again a couple of weeks ago to refresh my memory. Last Day Under the Sun is pretty solid, and I love Leviathan, but the rest of the album is seriously dull to me. ![]() Then there came Rewind, which, I'm sorry, to me, it's just their worst album. Seal the Deal is mostly solid, but I haven't really found myself listening to it very often since it first released. I love Outlaw Gentlemen, and still listen to it pretty frequently. That being said, I'd be lying if I told you I thought their last few albums were as good as their first four. When they announced that Rob was joining the band shortly before Outlaw Gentlemen, I was thrilled, because having a guitar virtuoso like that in the band would definitely give them more opportunities to explore more complex musical ideas. I've always dug how unique they are from a genre perspective I think Michael is a phenomenal songwriter, and I love his voice. ![]() I saw them live three times, most recently in 2014 or so. I was a huge Volbeat fan for their first four or five albums. ![]()
